PHYSCIAL AND CHEMICAL DATA

Odor: Slight odor of alcohol

Solubility: Insoluble in eater, soluble in amyl acetate

Melting Point: Ignites at 165 C.

Specific Gravity: 1.66

Appearance: Thin transparent, colorless to pale yellow sheets

FIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARD DATA

Flash Point: 13 C

Autoignition Temperature: 165 C

When dry, ignites readily and burns explosively. Should never be kept for any appreciable time

in any dry fibrous state. Unstabilized product decomposes generally at relatively low

temperature, with evolution of copious volumes of toxic and flammable gases, and rapid heat

generation. In prolonged storage and aging of nitrocellulose plastics, camphor is lost with

deterioration and the decomposition temperature may be lowered to 100 F. The resulting

flameless decomposition is self-sustaining and accelerative, presenting the added hazard of

dangerous pressures in building structures.

Explosive Hazard: An explosion may be initiated by sudden shock, by high temperature or by a

combination of the two.

Extinguishing Media: Water spray, dry chemical, alcohol foam or carbon dioxide.

HEALTH HAZARD DATA

Inhalation: Formation of large quantities of extremely toxic gases, notably oxides of nitrogen,

hydrogen cyanide and carbon monoxide may occur upon decomposition. Effects from exposures

to decomposition products are severe and life threatening.

Ingestion: Swallowing may result in sever stomach pain.

Skin: Corrosive to the skin. Discoloration and pain may result.

Eye: Severe pain

EMERGENCY AND FIRST AID

Inhalation: Remove to fresh air. Obtain medical attention for any breathing difficulty.

Ingestion: Obtain medical attention immediately.

Skin: Immediately flush skin with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Call a physician.

Eye: Irrigate eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Obtain medical attention

immediately

.

REACTIVITY DATA

Stability: Stable at room temperature in sealed container.

Hazardous Decomposition Products: Oxides of nitrogen, hydrogen cyanide, carbon monoxide.

Hazardous Polymerization: Will not occur.

Incompatibilities: Heat, flame, powerful oxidizers.

SPILL, DISPOSAL AND STORAGE INFORMATION

This material can be dangerous. Partially decomposed material may detonate or autoignite.

Handle decomposed material as an explosive that may detonate with mild shock using explosive

disposal procedures.

Disposal: Submerge fresh pariodion strips in water and burn in small quantities in an approved

incinerator. Ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulations.

Storage: Store away from heat, sparks and flame in a cool dry place. Keep container tightly

sealed when not in use.

PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT AND CONTROL MEASURES

Ventilation: Local exhaust recommended

Respirator: Not necessary unless exposure to vapor is apparent. A half-mask chemical cartridge

respirator may then be worn.

Skin: Protective gloves

Eye: Chemical safety goggles recommended.
